What Are the 7 Mountains of Influence?

The “7 Mountains of Influence” are simply seven categories of societal influence. The words “seven mountains” were used, because Revelation 17:9 uses it. saying the “seven heads that sit on the seven mountains”. Verses 1-18 use the number 7 eight times.

Let it be said that “influence”, not force or control, should be the operative word. But evil people have turned their influence into evil control because we allowed them to throughout the millennia of humankind on earth. The 7 mountains should showcase the seven characteristics of God Himself. We’ll return to what those characteristics are below.

This chapter of Revelation clearly describes an evil cabal of “kings” that influences the world with sexual immorality and perversion to advance its evil control. (See verse 2) In this chapter there are seven angels, seven bowls, seven heads, seven mountains and seven kings.

It is important to note that the kings “have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings.” (Verse 12) This indicates that they may not be typical “kings”. Rather, they are people of huge influence and control “behind the curtain” throughout the centuries and continuing today. Many refer to them as a global "mafia", or "cabal". It is no longer a conspiracy theory, but a conspiracy fact.

Prophetic Revelation of the 7 Mountains of Influence

Let’s take a look at how this recent doctrine about the 7 mountains of influence over the earth was received prophetically by several people in the 20th century. (If you are of the opinion that prophecy ceased with Jesus, read what He said about it in John 16:12-14, “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you.”)

In 2007, a prophetic preacher named Johnny Enlow was preaching about something he had heard from the Lord. He termed it the 7 mountains of influence. For the sake of brevity, after he gave the fourth sermon in the series of seven, a member of that church asked Mr. Enlow, “Do you realize that there is a guy named Lance Walnau who has a message out called ‘The Seven Mountain Strategy’?” Johnny asked him what Mr. Walnau was talking about. He explained that it was the same seven mountains he had been speaking about in his series of seven sermons!

It was discovered that Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ and Loren Cunningham of Youth With a Mission had received the same template of the 7 mountains of influence decades earlier. Enlow had been completely unaware of anyone else teaching this same concept. The seven-mountain prophecy had been given to Johnny very personally and supernaturally. God often verifies or confirms a prophetic word by giving it to several people separately in this manner.

It was discovered that various people around the world have stated that they received very similar concepts regarding the 7 mountains of influence. Bits and pieces of this message had been given by God to different prophetic individuals. As Johnny Enlow states in his book, The Seven Mountain Renaissance, what these messengers received “has all been on the central premise that these seven primary areas of society must be impacted by the influence of the kingdom of God operating through His sons and daughters.” This page includes a few of the major points in that very thorough book.

7 Mountains

The 7 Characteristics of God

Each of the 7 Mountains of Influence should be impacted by the kingdom of God. His seven characteristics should be seen in those spheres of influence. God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over...all the earth..." (Genesis 1:26)

Adam and Eve gave up that dominion mandate to Satan. We can take it back by the authority of Jesus. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations..." (Matthew 28:18-19)

He gave us back that authority over demons. That authority over demons IS referring to force and control. Jesus didn't give us influence over demons, but authority.

Luke 16:16 says, “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John came; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it." And Matthew 11:12, "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force." (Back from the demonic spirits.)

When people become evil, it is because we have not used the authority over the demonic realm. We have not filled the 7 mountains of influence with His character. Here are those overlapping seven characteristics of God as given to many prophetic individuals, including clear wording from Johnny Enlow. It just makes perfect sense!

  1. Family: God is our Father
  2. Religion: God saves humanity
  3. Education: God our teacher
  4. Business/Economy: God is our Provider
  5. Arts and Entertainment: God is Creator
  6. Media: Jesus is the Word (John 1). He is the communicator of Truth.
  7. Government: God is government. "And of the increase of His government there shall be no end." (Isaiah 9:7)

Humanity, being created in His image, was created to imitate and display God's character. It is obvious that the demonic realm has been allowed to take over those seven influential spheres of global society through evil people. Taking King Jesus's kingdom was Satan's lust all along. But Satan is the hyper-loser.

His Glory Drives Out Darkness

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.

In Paul's admonition we see the family aspect of our relationship with the Father. We are to imitate His characteristics: The seven major characteristics of God. In those characteristics, those seven influential spheres, is the solution to every problem. Those solutions having dominion will transform society.

Isaiah 60:1-3 in The Passion Translation: Rise up in splendor and be radiant, for your light has dawned, and Yahweh’s glory now streams from you! Look carefully! Darkness blankets the earth, and thick gloom covers the nations, but Yahweh arises upon you and the brightness of his glory appears over you! Nations will be attracted to your radiant light and kings to the sunrise-glory of your new day.

Isaiah was prophesying a day that the "deep darkness" covering the earth would be driven out by His bright glory appearing over those who imitate Him and allow His glory to live fully in us. The knowldege of His glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea, as Habakkuk 2:14 promises.

 Kingdom and Temple

How will this happen? By humanity seeking to have His character influencing the entire earth with His characteristics displayed in the 7 mountains of influence. The Revelation of Jesus Christ calls His faithful, "kings and priests". (Revelation 5:10) "Kings" indicate that we are influencers from His kingdom. "Priests" indicate we have responsibility in His Temple.

Let's take a look at recorded prophetic words in scripture about the physical temple being rebuilt. Isaiah (chapter 45) spoke about a future King Cyrus before that non-Israelite king was even born. God even called this non-believer by name and gave him the title of "chosen one" one hundred and fifty years before he was alive.

(Verses 4 and 5) For the sake of Jacob My servant, And Israel My chosen one, I have also called you by your name; I have given you a title of honor. Though you have not known Me. I am the Lord, and there is no one else; There is no God except Me. I will arm you, though you have not known Me...

Rebuilding The Temple

His mandate from God was to see to it that the temple was rebuilt. (Isaiah 45:4,13) If that temple had not been rebuilt, there would not have been a temple for Jesus to spend so much time in as the son of man and Son of God on earth. He was, "about My Father's business" in that temple.

Notice how serious God was about that temple being rebuilt:

Hagai 1:2 “This is what the Lord of armies says: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time for the house of the Lord to be rebuilt.”’” 3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 “Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while this house remains desolate?”

God’s heavenly Kingdom on Earth comes from the Temple. It is manifest in the 7 mountains of influence. The seven characteristics of God, as we imitate Him and let Him live in us.

Matt 16:18 "…upon this rock I will build My church and the gates of Hades will not overpower it."  The word translated "church" was ecclesia. Jesus always used that Greek word that is translated church. It previously never meant a body of believers. It meant a called out legislative body of societal influential leaders. That is who the church is supposed to be and what we should be doing, in His name.

Temple Stones"...built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood"

Peter told us that we “as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5) In Eph 2:20-22 Paul said we are being “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."

Is there any doubt that the spiritual temple is "in ruins" today, and that "Darkness blankets the earth, and thick gloom covers the nations"? The solution to that is to rebuild the temple, "for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit". Haggai speaks to us today to "rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be honored". (Haggai 1:8)

Gold for the TempleGold returned for the temple.

Yes, we will have a modern-day Cyrus-type who will bring back the gold and silver to help with the rebuilding of the spiritual temple for Jesus to return to, just like in Cyrus's day. That Cyrus figure, too, is not a man who knew God.

Kings and Priests

As that happens, it is up to us, the Lord's "kings and priests" representing the kingdom of God and His temple on earth, to partner with him. We must rebuild that temple. The solution is here. It is the 7 mountains of influence.

We can transform society through God's characteristics with His miraculous power. We will radiate light from godly families; the ecclesia ("religion") working with truth-based godly education (anchoring freedom); positive business practices that build a great economy; uplifting arts and entertainment that showcase the Creator's masterpieces; a media that reports the truth; and civil government that honors the God whose government will increase with no end. America was raised up for that purpose. We need to start rebuilding right here!

Finding Our Destinies

Find where you fit into those 7 mountains of influence. Help others to find out how they can contribute to the same. We each have a destiny with giftings to use to do just that! It's a matter of timing.

What generation will finally stand up and begin to fill the earth with the knowledge of His glory, from the 7 mountains of influence displaying His character?

Habakkuk 2:14 “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea”. We find that at least five times in scripture! What if He wants the knowledge of His glory to cover the earth before He returns to a "clean, spotless Bride" made ready for Him? Would it not "prepare the way of the Lord" (Isaia 40:3; Mark 1:3)?

“We are more than conquerors” because He is the ultimate Winner/Conqueror! "More than conqerors" is translated from a word that means hyper-conquerors. God doesn’t lose.

Wouldn’t the knowledge of His glory filling the earth be the result of preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God to all the world? Wouldn't making "disciples of all the nations" be a result of that?

If we want Christ to return, we must build up His Temple for His dwelling place! The 7 mountains of influence is the solution to every problem. We must partner with Holy Spirit to radiate His glory and transform the nations, so that "the knowledge of His glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the seas!"

Are we waiting for Him? Or, is He waiting for us? "Here I am Lord! Send me."
